Lia Cociorva is an artist and creative technologist from San Diego, California and based in Brooklyn, New York. Her entrance into the Masters of Science at NYU’s Integrated Design and Media program was through the accelerated BS/MS program offered by Tandon School of Engineering, totaling a five year education in IDM.
Throughout these five years, she has explored digital and physical fabrication across multiple mediums, accumulating in a body of work mostly composed of multimedia installations. Driven by materiality and the immersive qualities of physical sensation, her work often blends the digital with the tactile, sometimes in the form of soft sculpture, projection onto textile, and soundscape.
She has been a self portrait artist her whole life in one manner or another, over time expanding the definition of self portraiture to include her personal experience in artworks that explore her relationship to the world itself. She often intertwines her personal history into artworks that attempt to relate collective identity to that of the individual, often using emerging media as both medium and message.
